Comments about Sonuus B2M Universal Bass-to-MIDI Converter: I've been experimenting with Bass MIDI for about 1 year. Hebrew language files. I have been using a Roland GR-3B Pickup.It has been great but lets face it, the darn thing is ugly and bulky and hard to swap instruments. When I saw the B2M in Bass Player, I checked out the Sonuus sight and reviews. Needless to say, today, I laid the money down and came home with one.

The darn thing works good but can be glitchy. Here are a few pointers I found in just the short time I've had it. First it works best on passive basses. Active basses can cause wierd tracking and octive jumps. Second it tracks better with a pick rather than finger picking. Third, mute any strings you don't want to sound.

For example when finger picking a note on the D if your finger touches the A you will signal the MIDI to play the A. Once you practice this, it becomes less of a problem. Last and most important if the bass has two pickups, turn the volume off on the neck pickup and full volume on the bridge pickup.

Tracking works best on the bridge pickups. You cannot touch any other MIDI convertor for this price. That is why I give it a four out of five.

Once you practice with it the B2M becomes alot of fun. The thing I like is I can switch basses with just a cord and strap change. Comments about Sonuus B2M Universal Bass-to-MIDI Converter: The Sonuus B2M is excellent at what it is meant to do.

No extra hardware required, no midi pick-ups or anything to attach to the bass, only line into Sonuus and midi out to computer usb, easy! Works well, low latency, no setup. Only drawback is it does not recognize individual channels but only pitches, so that if you want to use if for midi sounds only, is perfect, an A on the A string is the same as an A on the E string, etc. If you want to have distinct triggers for each fret and separate open A from A on another string, you can't do it, it is only a pitch detector not more complex than that. For that kind of extensive control, you still need to have an AXON and Roland MIDI pickup, for straight soft instrument playing with little fuss the Sonuus does the job extremely well! I got it a week ago and and conected it to my Sonar rig and it worked really good.

It takes a bit of practice though, but it really works. I've also tested it with an sound module and it worked even better. I'm starting to love this gizmo.

One thing I do recommend is that it be used with a 6 or 7 string bass. I've tried it on a 4 and you really don't get much because it seems to work better on higher register notes. I read all the reviews and followed all the instructions.and still found this product useless. I must admit, my local GC didn't have the B2M so I originally bought the G2M. When that didn't work, I returned it and ordered the B2M.

When it arrived you would have thought it was Christmas. I ran down to my studio made the connections, and dialed up my favorite upright bass patch. I immediately experienced the octave jumps and missed notes that the reviews had warned about. I then switched basses, hit my active bypass switch, and rolled off the bridge pickup.same thing. After swapping out all the cables, and trying out five different basses, I couldn't find one combination that could get me through a simple major scale with any semblance of musicality. The Accessories staff at GC had mixed reviews when I bought it. One said, 'I've never had a complaint with the box,' the other saying, 'I haven't found a bass to midi converter yet that allows you to play naturally without latency issues.'

I think I need to practice my key bass as the quest continues. I've owned this for about 2 weeks now and i've had the opportunity to give it the full treatment. I've used the B2M at rehearsal, live, and in the studio with different results.

I'm using an Ibanez sr506 and running through the B2M into various Native Instruments pluggins on my Macbook Pro. First of all, if you're planning on running through a computer for either live or recording purposes make sure the system has plenty of RAM and isn't being bogged down by other running applications. YOU WILL NOTICE, the tracking will be slow and pretty much useless.

However, if you do have a fast enough system the B2M does track pretty well with a lot of different sounds. Some sounds just won't track well because they were designed for a keyboard or some other midi controller, not a bass guitar. Second, if you want to use it live figuring out HOW to use the B2M to its potential can be tricky. You can try running from your computer or other synth module into the pa or try running it into your amp if you have the proper features. I have a eden navigator with a side chain and an auxiliary input and i can control the level and blend from the front. Or you can invest in some kind of splitting pedal like a lehle to split up your dry and synth signal so it can be controlled by a foot switch. I know this was a lot but i hope it helps.
