I just set up a new Windows 7 PC -64 bit and tried to add two HP laser printers. A 2300d with a serial/ethernet print server plugged in and a 2015dn with an HP ethernet card. HP doesnt seem to have any any 64 bit drivers for Windows 7; I tried their web site but it just goes around in circles when I try to follow the links to download a driver. After updating the Windows drivers list I found some new drivers for HP printers that ween't there before, but no 2015d. I picked a 2100 and it didn't work. Itried a universal driver and that seems to work, but I 'm not sure if all features work yet.
The HP 2300 does not work at all- no printer information appears in properties and no printing occurs. Does anyone know where I can get a 64 bit windows rriver for the HP 2015dn and 2300d? Hi Vegan Fanatic, THis is brand new from Dell with Windows 7 pre-installed. I tried letting the Add printer wizard contact Microsoft update and several new printers appeared in the HP list, but NOT the 2015dn although sveral 2300 variations. For the 2300d I tried selecting a 2300 PCL6 but it didnt print. I have since tried a Universal driver from HP which thet say supprts the 2000 series but no joy. With a universal driver the 2015dn did print yesterday but now the user cannot print again.
No listed driver specifically says 2015dn. I tried phoning HP but could only leave a message-they haven't called me back. So much for HP support You buy professional laser printers from them and they don't help when Microsoft changes its OS. MIcrosoft figures its HP's problem. Hi Pilotmp I am just about to upgrade to W7 64 bit and wanted to check that my HP2300dn would still have a driver. I wasn't convinced by the HP driver page so googled a bit and found this microsoft compatibility page.
See All 12 Rows On Printerdriverseries.com
It states that 7 64 is compatible and offers a free download to ensure that the 2300dn will work. The compatibility centre also shows that the 2300d is compatible with the 64 bit version of 7 (see link below) I first posted here that it wasn't compatible as I hadn't checked the 64 bit tab on the page - sorry about that. I have since edited this post. I managed to fix this. This is for HP 2300d installed on USB on a Windows XP PC and then shared on a LAN. The Windows 7 machine wants to use this remote printer, but the Add Printer wizard refuses to install it as it can't find a driver - even if you visit HP can download the Universal driver. Plug the printer directly into the Windows 7 PC.
Allow Windows 7 to locate and install a driver - I had to use the Troubleshooter and allow a search on Windows Update. Once installed, print something to test. Unplug the printer from the Windows 7 PC and then plug it back into the Windows XP machine. Remember to use the same USB socket the printer was originally plugged into - or you may get another 2300d detected and installed on the XP machine.
Assuming the 2300d is shared from within XP you now need to browse the network using Windows Explorer. When you see the shared printer, click the right mouse buton on it and select 'Make shortcut' - a shortcut should appear on the decktop. Right click on the desktop shortcut and click properties. The Target box should be hightlighted, so click on it and select copy. Open the Devices and Printer panel. The 2300d you installed via USB will still exist even though the pritner has been returned to the XP machine.
Richt click on it and the click 'Printer Properties'. Click the Ports tab. Click 'Add port', then click 'Add local port', when the 'Enter Port Name' box appears, paste in the Shortcut target information and click next. Click OK or Apply until all the boxes have gone. You should now have a working printer!
Windows 7 thinks its a local printer, but you have redirected it to the LAN shared printer. Hope this helps. Thanks to Nic, but our printer has a parallel print server device attached to the LAN, and is not classed as Shared. TManx, Is it just me or do al HPs links go around in circles? When I go to the compatibility page you linked to (the top link), it sfor a 2300dn; I selected a 2300d and 64 bit then followed the link 'Free download required'. It takes me to the HP driverpage I found before.
I selct Windows 7 64 bit and it goes: On this page, under the 'Driver' heading, I click 'Obtain software' on the right edge and it only takes me to anther page with a table and a lot of Xs in a grid. Under all tyhat there is a link that says 'Download and install the print driver.and that takes me alll the way out to a generic HP starter page!!
Hp Laserjet 2300 Pcl6 Driver For Windows 7
So where is the driver download??? I've been trying to get a new Windows 7 64-bit PC to print to a LJ 2300 on a print server running Windows XP. For almost 2 months I've tried many things. The main problem seems to be that the LJ 2300 is nowhere in the inf files that come with the Universal printer driver. Yes, the one that you get from the LJ 2300 driver page on hp.com.
I was thinking of taking a similar printer like the LJ 2420 and duplicating all the entries, renaming 2420 to 2300 everywere. Your fix worked. I thought about the local/network idea you have here. But didn't know how to make it work.
